Premium Pricing Data Brief

A data and assumption checklist to frame an insurance pricing analysis before rate development.

1. Exposure definition

Define policy count, earned exposure, insured value, payroll, sales, units, or other exposure measures consistently.

2. Claims definition

Clarify incurred versus paid, loss date, report date, claim count, expense treatment, salvage/subrogation, and large-loss handling.

3. Segmentation

List current rating variables, operational availability, data quality, legal/regulatory constraints, and credibility considerations.

4. Trend and development

Identify loss trend, exposure trend, claim development, seasonality, inflation, mix shifts, or other time effects relevant to the product.

5. Expenses and financial terms

Document acquisition, operating, tax/fee, reinsurance, profit/margin, capital, or other components used in the pricing framework.

6. Governance

Record intended use, indication versus selection, approval requirements, filing requirements, limitations, and professional review.
